Evaluation Outline

Dear Parent(s):

Welcome to the Bow River Basketball evaluations for the 2017-18 minor basketball season. At the beginning of each basketball season, evaluations are done for each age group. The number of evaluations are determined by the number of players and which age group they belong to. The players skills are tested through drills and scrimmages so the evaluators can make a decision as to how the teams will be formed based on the skills of each individual.

The primary objectives of the evaluation process are to:

1. Provide every child with an opportunity to be evaluated objectively and fairly.

2. Facilitate the process of putting together teams in hopes that each player is placed on the team to which he/she is best suited and will have a most enjoyable year.

In order to effectively evaluate your child’s basketball ability, he/she will be assessed based on comparisons with groups of players in his/her age group. There could be a significant amount of movement of players between groups prior to each session in each division in order to accommodate this assessment.

After each session, division coordinators will distribute information regarding the next evaluation session to each child. After the final session, the division coordinators will compile information provided to them by their evaluators and form teams and assign coaches for the upcoming season. The coordinators will contact the coaches and provide them with their team rosters and contact information. The coaches will then contact the players directly. Normally, expect to be contacted by your child’s new coach within 7-10 days from the conclusion of the final evaluation session.

To make the process run as smoothly as possible, we are asking parents the following:

• Initial evaluation times for all age groups, will be emailed to all players by the divisional coordinators so please watch your email.

• Please ensure your child is dressed and ready at least 5 minutes before each session;

• Please ensure your child attends each evaluation session to give the evaluators the best chance at placing your child on the best suited team for their level. (If they do not attend it is impossible to evaluate them so they may end up placed on a team level that is not appropriate)

. We ask that only players and evaluators come into the gym area while evaluations are being conducted. We want the players to focus on their task and avoid distractions. This will be strictly enforced. Please contact the respective Division Coordinator with questions.

· All players should come in shorts without pockets and clean non marking running shoes. They should have their own ball (with name on it) and a water bottle.

· Coordinators are volunteers doing their best at a difficult job. They follow guidelines that we have created to ensure uniformity for all players. Results will be compiled from their findings. Please be patient and respectful of the process - not every child can make the “A” team & not everyone can be on the same team as their friends;

Please, when you come to your first evaluation time, remember to bring the required documents that you have been asked to provide, or your child will be refused entry to the gym. Please be there a minimum of 15 minutes early so you can check in and register your child.
