To our Bow River South Coaches

Bow River relies on our volunteer coaches to help deliver on our association's most important goal: to provide a safe, fun, and positive experience for our teams and players. This letter will provide information and details to get you started.

Please review the Bow River website and become familiar with our program, mission statement and values. You will also find our “Coaches Corner” section. Upon registering as a coach, you must read and agree to the Calgary Minor Basketball Association’s Participation Agreement. Failing to abide by this agreement could result in disciplinary action. As a member of the Alberta Basketball Association, all coaches, assistant coaches and managers must provide a police background (ePIC) check. Please speak to your age group coordinator if you have any questions.

As the CMBA outlines, please read and understand the rules and game modifications specific to your age group and division. Each team will be required to provide minor officials for games. Ensure that you and your minor officials read and understand these roles as posted on the CMBA website.

A wealth of coaching resources is available on the CMBA website: specific drills, practice plans, training, coaching clinics, etc. Coaching clinics are free throughout the season and can be registered here. All coaches are required to hold the U-11 minimum level of certification.

There is a need for more referees across the entire youth sports spectrum. This shortage partially results from abuse officials receive from coaches and spectators. Referees are vital to the game. Any abuse of officials violates the CMBA Participation Agreement. In particular, please be aware of the CMBA’s White Whistle program.
